Filling:

 

  • 3 cups wild blackberries (can use store bought)
  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 2 tbsp. maple sugar or other sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp. butter, cut into thin slices

 

Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups whole grain pastry flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup maple sugar, granulated cane juice or other sugar
  • 2 pinches sea salt
  • 6-8 tbsp. grass-fed butter

Procedure:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Wash berries and place into a 9×9 baking dish
  3. Combine apple juice with sugar and vanilla extract and pour on top of berries
  4. Cut butter into small pieces and drop on top of berries
  5. Put whole grain pastry flour, maple sugar and salt into a large mixing bowl
  6. Cut butter into ½ inch squares and combine with dry ingredients
  7. Mix flour and butter with your hands until it resembles crumbles
  8. Lay crumbles on top of blackberries (do not pack down)
  9. Bake, uncovered, 35-45 minutes or until light brown and bubbling
