If you’ve got sweet cravings, this simple little beverage can help.
It’s a natural remedy used to relax the pancreas, stabilize blood sugar, and reduce cravings for refined sugar by using the natural sweetness of vegetables.
Basically, it’s using vegetables that all have a sweet flavor profile like onions, carrots, squash, and cabbage that are chopped and simmered for 20-25 minutes. Then you would strain out the vegetables and sip on the warm sweet liquid.
I know it may sound like an odd thing to drink, but it really does work.
When I first learned about this beverage 30 years ago, I was studying Macrobiotics at the Kushi Institute. Almost everyone in the class was struggling with sweet cravings. I mean after all, we did grow up eating Ding Dongs and Donuts.
But, every afternoon, the kitchen staff at the Kushi Institute would bring out a tall container filled with this magical drink.
It was warm, sweet, relaxing, hydrating, and totally hit the spot.
Give it a try. You may be surprised at how well it works.

- 1 cup each, chopped onion, carrot, cabbage, and winter squash (like Kabocha or butternut).
- 7-8 cups of water.
- Bring water and vegetables to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 20 minutes.
- Strain the liquid and drink while it's warm.
- The vegetables can be composted or used in soup.
