I received an interesting and naïve response from a new health coach.
She said, “I keep hearing how easy it is, but it seems everything involves relationship building or email list building or social media follower building, and all of those take a lot of time. What can a new health coach do to get clients right away.” – Mary
What Mary is struggling with is the reality of what it really takes to be an entrepreneur and build a successful health-coaching business.
I know there is a LOT of gimmicky stuff out there that is marketed to folks who are struggling. The false promises of, “Get 30 clients in 10 days” or “Earn 6 figures in 30 days”…. and it is all pretty much marketing malarkey.
Yes, of course, it can happen. I’m not a Debbie downer. And, I do hope that it happens for you. Unfortunately, more often than not, it doesn’t work that way.
The truth is it ain’t easy.
It takes time, dedication and hard work to build your practice and become a successful health coach.
There are no shortcuts to success.
When I first started my business 20 years ago it was hard work!
And, now almost two decades later, guess what? It’s still hard work!
If you are a health coach or wellness practitioner who is not under the umbrella of a parent company, you had better put your entrepreneurial pants on to get the work done.
Entrepreneurs need to have, or need to develop, certain types of characteristics to help them create their successful businesses.
Many entrepreneurs are visionaries.
- They have creative minds and dream with their eyes wide open. But, the difference between the entrepreneurs and the daydreamers is that they take daily action to manifest their dreams.
- They are NOT afraid to fail. Failure is a valuable learning lesson for these folks.
- They take big risks. No one ever made an impact in the world by playing “small.”
- They set strong boundaries about what they want to create. You can’t create anything if you’re being pulled in 20 different directions.
- They continue learning to inspire them and spark creativity.
Building your health coaching business is going to take time, effort, and a lot of hard work. But, as a successful entrepreneur, I can tell you this… it is very rewarding!
Not just financially, but spiritually and emotionally as well. When you are doing the work you love, and getting paid for it, it’s a life-changing experience.
If you are stuck and struggling, and have taken every marketing program on the web, you need to re-adjust your focus and strengthen your resolve to make your business happen.
